For over 65 years, the greater Tecumseh community has benefited from the hard working volunteers who have given countless hours of service to the Tecumseh community through the years.
On May 9, 1956, a small group of men began to meet as Kiwanians. Adrian and Blissfield clubs were already established and served as sponsors to this fledgling group that has continued and thrived for several decades. Over the years these dedicated individuals have supported numerous groups and causes including offering scholarships to college bound students, supporting Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, summer baseball and softball at the Rec Dept, giving to many community organizations, bell ringing for Salvation Army, improvements to Kiwanis Memorial Park on North Maumee Street, hosting a Christmas party for the Porter Center, supporting Tecumseh Youth Theater, assisting Tecumseh Service Club, and the list goes on and on.
For all this sustained service to our community and youth, it has taken fund raising to make it all happen. This has been accomplished by working at Michigan International Speedway, a World’s Fair event, selling candy & peanuts, running a concession trailer at local events, our annual Travel & Adventure Series, selling mixed nuts at Christmas, and providing an American flag posting service on six national holidays at residences and businesses throughout the Tecumseh area. We are appreciative and grateful for all of Tecumseh’s community members for their support.
We salute these Charter Members who had the vision and drive to create a club whose purpose was to make Tecumseh a wonderful place to live and raise a family by accepting the challenge to help the world one child and one community at a time:
Keith Bailey, William Beagle, Sherman Blouch, Robert Bowen, Earl Brownfield, Joe Fortunato, Fred C. Hadley, Richard Hicks, Wayne F. Kasier, Harold Kopka, Cal Damon, William Devonshire, Ray Ernst, David W. Ousterhout, Ken Pender, George Schumm, Albert Seitz, Ray Seitz, George Seitz, Alton L. Snyder, Carl Lamb, F. John Mills, Richard Morse, Gene Tuckey, Robert W. Wallace.
Come to the Tuesday breakfast meeting and visit with members of the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh as we fulfill the Kiwanis mission by serving our youth and community through Kiwanis Community Service Projects.
