The Clock committee is responsible for placement of a large, tall two-faced pedestal clock near downtown in recognition of Tecumseh’s 200th anniversary in 2024. Consideration is also being made in regards to a memorial dedication. Responsibilities of the committee include funding, purchase, and installation.
Builders Club
Builders Club committee works with youth in 7th and 8th grade during the school day and beyond to plan and promote community service activities within our community. The goal is to provide leadership and growth opportunities. The committee always needs member volunteers to help drive and supervise events. At least 5-6 other members who would be willing to connect with youth during the school day and provide transportation and supervision to events would be ideal for the committee. Some of our activities need a great deal of Kiwanis help such as the fall community service days and Haunted House. Committee works year around but definitely the busiest September to December.
Canoe Race
This committee is responsible for the annual canoe race which occurs in June. The committee meets throughout the year, but especially from January through June, to plan, promote, clean the river, recruit volunteers & participants, and execute the race. There are many ways a member can volunteer on this committee, as little or as much time as they want to give.
Club Meetings – Administrative
The club vice president is responsible for coordinating the Greeters, Invocation, Note Taker, Fine Masters and Programs by assigning those responsibilities to the members throughout the administrative year. The VP also inputs this information into our management software in three-month increments so the president can create timely agendas. VP must be at weekly and monthly board meetings by 6:30am in order to set room up: flags, banners, badge box, podium, and bell set out, etc. The VP is responsible for training the incoming vice president once that person has been selected. In a president’s absence, VP may be called upon to run a meeting if the President-Elect is unavailable to do so.
Community Service
Community services is responsible for the distribution of Kiwanis funds to various community organizations during the year as well as organizing the highway cleanup, assisting in Bird park spring cleanup, and aiding the Builders Club with the Christmas Parade activities.
Fellowship
This committee is responsible for planning fun monthly events during the evening or weekend. Events provide members an opportunity to meet and socialize beyond the weekly breakfast meeting. Ideas about where to go and what to do are always welcome.
Finance (Annual Budget)
This committee is co-chaired by the club Treasurer and President and meets quarterly to discuss, prepare, and oversee the club annual budget; review and approve expenses; establish and maintain financial policies and internal control procedures; and review/discuss and other financial issues which might arise (delinquent dues, special expense, etc.). Once the committee has drafted the budget, they are responsible for presenting it to the Board and then the membership for approval.
Financial Review Committee
Per our Kiwanis International By-Laws, each club is required to have a Financial Review Committee in place to review the club’s financial records annually. This would include, but not be limited to, bank reconciliations, expenditures, internal control policies, Finance Committee meeting minutes, etc. This committee, upon completion of its review, would present a report to the club Board of Directors. Board members and Officers may NOT be a member of this committee and committee members should have some experience in accounting or budgeting. Please note: This committee is different from the Finance Committee, which will be meeting quarterly and are responsible for working with the treasurer on the club budget and approval of monthly expenditures.
Flag Fundraiser
This committee is responsible for the club’s major fundraising effort to support annual scholarship awards and other club projects. Club members build flags, establish and maintain flag routes, plant and harvest flags 3 – 4 times per year. Advertising is conducted via club email, on club social media accounts, on the club website, in the local newspaper, and on place mats. It is an all-hands-on-deck effort. Busy time is May to November.
Human and Spiritual Values
This committee is responsible for sending cards to members and coordinating with members to perform invocation assignment at all club meetings. Members of this committee coordinate partnerships/assistance between Kiwanis members and community projects associated with a church. Committee also maintains the weekly Kiwanis advertisement in our local paper.
Inter-club Leader – Administrative
This administrator organizes and schedules visits of our members to other Kiwanis Clubs with the purpose of exchanging project ideas and enjoying fellowship. Visits are scheduled once a month rotating to each of the ten Division II clubs.
Investments (Freer Fund)
This committee is responsible for the review of the club Freer Fund financial statements and to make timely recommendations to board of directors.
Key Club
This committee acts as liaison and advisor to the Key Club, which is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. In partnership with Kiwanis club, high school students learn how to lead, stand for what is right though service and volunteerism, and make a positive impact as they serve others in their school and communities.
Kiwanis Park / Trail
This committee works primarily at Kiwanis Memorial Park on North Maumee Street just north of the Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA). Our club has assisted with the development of this nearly 24-acre City of Tecumseh park since 1961.
Spring is normally the busiest time within the committee: winter storm clean up, wood chip disbursement on paths, and preparation for warm weather use of the park. Fall preparation for the cold weather season is another busy time. This committee’s future plans include connecting the two areas of the Park to form a continuous walking loop and additional signage.
Kiwanis Trail Extension (Includes Triathlon)
This committee is involved with the Kiwanis trail extension from the city of Adrian, through Adrian Township and Raisin Township, and ending in the City of Tecumseh. Our club has been financially supportive of this project since its inception. This committee is devoted to anything related to the extension, whether it be attending meetings, raising further funds, or simply providing the club with ongoing information.
K-Kids
K-Kids is a Kiwanis Student Leadership Program and the largest service organization for elementary school students – with more than 1200 clubs worldwide. Club members discover their passion to serve, desire to lead, and their ability to engage and collaborate with others to better the school and community. K-Kids at Patterson meet one Wednesday a month. K-Kids at Herrick meet one Thursday a month.
Marketing and Website
This committee is responsible for overseeing the website, publicity (in conjunction with Historian), and marketing materials. The 2023-24 marketing committee was tasked with transferring and rebuilding the club website from Portalbuzz to WordPress and providing a transitional communications solution as Kiwanis International rolls out a new website hosting solution for its clubs.
Further, as result of Kiwanis Kapers ceasing to exist, this committee will be responsible for enhancing the weekly agenda with discussion items and uploading it as a reference for members.
Membership/Growth
The Membership committee will work together with all members of the club to recruit new members and will help retention efforts by keeping the entire membership involved, informed, and feeling like their membership is valuable.
New Fundraisers – BINGO
The committee, in general, will be responsible for brainstorming and fleshing out new ideas to raise funds for the club. This committee will also be responsible for planning and executing BINGO events for the club.
Nut Sales Fundraiser
This committee manages a major fundraising effort to support club endeavors in the community by coordinating the annual nut sale. Responsibilities include establishment of annual sales goal, order of product, delivery to local retailers and members, and summary end-of-project report to the membership.
Porter Center Party
This committee plans a Christmas party for the severely disabled children at the Porter Center. Kiwanis members act as Santa and his helpers. Each child is given a monetary gift and their teachers are responsible purchasing useful gifts that the children will enjoy. The children enjoy a Christmas party with refreshments. Entertainment is provided.
Presidential Advisor – Administrative
Responsibilities: The outgoing Past President is there to assist the new president and board as needed.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
This committee coordinates the annual bell ringing event for the Salvation Army. Contact Salvation Army for date and location. Ensure that members man time slots and have proper support and equipment.
Scholarships
Each year the Kiwanis provide scholarships to Tecumseh students in coordination with Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD). This committee’s responsibilities include selection, student interviews, evaluation of applicants, and determination of scholarship award.
Song Leader – Administrative
Each meeting begins with song and the Pledge of Allegiance. This committee is responsible for selecting and leading the club in song and playing the piano. These members help establish a positive beginning and fellowship for each meeting.
Time Capsule
This committee has been established to work on a time capsule to be dedicated and buried during the City of Tecumseh’s anniversary in 2024 (when the Bicentennial Clock is dedicated). This committee will work with the City of Tecumseh, club leadership, and members to create a time capsule and fill it with meaningful, impactful items.

The club treasurer is responsible to maintain club financial records, count money collected at each meeting, deposit money in club bank account, pay bills, work with the Finance Committee to create and oversee the annual club budget, and maintain strong internal controls. Treasurer works with CPA to file annual tax returns.
Young Children Priority One
Young Children Priority One focuses on children prenatal through age 8. Four common areas of concern are maternal and child health; child care and development; parent education, support and safety; and pediatric Trauma. Although the committee works to do monthly projects throughout the Kiwanis year, their main project is to coordinate C. S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital annual “Shower” event.
Young Professionals
This committee will encourage fellowship and membership among the young professionals in the current membership as well as seeking out young professionals from the community.
Youth Services and Seniors of the Month
The Youth Services Committee is dedicated to provide support for school age children in the Tecumseh area. The committee has several responsibilities including reviewing applicants for Seniors of the Month, providing much-needed tech supplies to the district, supporting TPS swim teams financially and through volunteerism at the boys and girls Kiwanis swim meets, and reviewing/approving grants across the community that support the children in the Tecumseh Area. The beginning of the fiscal year (October) is a busy time as that is when the grants from community organizations are received.
